Mama Memories: Becoming a Mom

To be honest, it was a hard adjustment for me becoming a Mom. Going from a career orientated women to a stay at home mom was a 180 that took some time to get used to. I feel like I missed out on the newborn moments that everyone talks about. The moments of snuggling with your baby, wanting to hold and look at them all day and just feel so in love. I struggled with wanting to love this little baby we created. Love him in a way I envisioned. Bryson had colic for the first four weeks of life so I missed out on the moments of cuddling because he was in so much pain he cried and kept his little body tense all the time. I missed out on wanting to be with him and no one else because when that time came I was so exhausted from trying to get him calm I needed my space. I struggled so much with the thought I was not being a good mom because of my lack of love when I needed a break.  My struggle was my own. I knew I loved this little boy beyond life its self and the struggle was me, exhausted trying to find a new style of life that worked for everyone in the family and to meet the needs of my new son. While B and I were new parents the first four weeks we struggled with each other. Its like learning a new dance together. You will step on each others toes every now and then but soon you will be flawless and it will be beautiful. I remember the day Bryson's colic was gone. He was a happy baby, so full of life and just peaceful. We finally got to cuddle.

Those first few weeks seemed to last forever. My struggle with being a new mom and feeling I wasn't doing everything I could was a lie I was believing. I did everything I knew was right. I loved my baby and was there for him. This Mom thing is pretty darn precious. The first laugh, the first role over and best of all the smile you get when you walk into the room. The smile that says "Hi Mom".

King Salmon Derby- First Weekend

Every year from when I was born (and before that) my family has been big in fishing the annual King Salmon Derby. I love it! Fish or not this is my time on the water with my family, like it or not ;) and catching a salmon is just a bonus... for me. This year is Bryson's first time fishing the Derby. HE WAS AMAZING! On the first day he took five naps. FIVE! I think I should invest in a water bed! HA! The weather was great, the fishing was slow but the family time is priceless. I caught a chum salmon, apparently he didn't get the memo its a king salmon derby, B caught a 24.4lbs king and my Dad caught a 30.3lb king. My Mom caught a 17.8lbs king on the second day and released two around 20lbs on the last day. (You can only keep one king a day and we were looking for some big boys) It was a great first weekend of fishing.

The Rub Down

Do you use DoTerra oils? Believer or not there is never any harm in using natural products. I started using them right after Bryson was born. I wanted to give him something that would help him and wouldn't harm him since he was so little. With traveling at three months I had the fear of a sick baby soon after. A month before travel I started applying OnGaurd, diluted with coconut oil, to the bottom of his feet at every diaper change (or every two hrs) I use it as well. He also likes it when I blow on his feet when they are wet. :) After three weeks of traveling with a successful non-sick baby and mama I am a believer! Bryson was a very colic/gassy baby so I also use Lavender oil, also diluted, on his stomach to help with gas. This oil is not used all the time just when he was uncomfortable. I have a little stock pile of oils, they can be addicting! Lavender oil is also good for diaper rash so to beat the rash and help keep his cute little cheeks clean I add Lavender oil to his wipes/wipe warmer. Even makes the cleaning station smell good. Next on my list... Lavender and Peppermint oil bath bombs!!

Mommy Blogs

If I knew Mommy blogs would be so much fun I would have kidnapped a kid along time ago! Haha! I love the Mommy bloggers that really put their story's out there. Not only does it help me connect but it makes life seem less along. Us stay-at-home Mama's get into the rut of baby talk, pj's all day, and brushing your hair because an event. When my Son takes his naps it is my time of relating to others, making my thoughts blog post, and laughing with other Moms about their lives. Its kinda an updated version of pen pals. So this post is for all you hard working Mama's out there who take your precious alone time to share with me. A Mom who needs other Mama bloggers to laugh with! Thank you, you Rock!!

These boots are made for walking...

Over the weekend our town held a "Rain Boot Race" for the largest group wearing rain boots at once for a Guinness book of world record. We broke the record with a whopping 1,976 people. It was a great turn out and tons of rain boots! The weather held out with only a few sprinkles. B, Myself, Bryson, and Zoe Dog with friends Jenn & McKinsee (+baby Elliot due in July!) all put our rain boots on and joined the crowd.

Mama Memories: Breastfeeding in Public

Before I was pregnant I knew I wanted to breastfeed my baby but wanting to breastfeed and actually breastfeeding are two different things. I was very blessed to have a very easy experience. With Bryson being a larger baby (8.14lbs) he had no trouble latching on and understanding the process. In the first few weeks I could not understand how some women made it look so easy breastfeeding in public. When I was first learning I wanted everything off, nothing in the way because it was hard enough just learning how to get a rhythm down with my baby then jugging the nursing bra, tank top, shirt, blanket, boppy pillow, ect. Side note, whoever came up with the boppy pillow, You are my hero! So, at that point breastfeeding in public was out of the question. If I couldn't get this clothing chaos looking good at home what the heck would I look like in public? The answer, A first time Mom. :)
I also new I wanted to pump so I could have some freedom and feed him on the go. I am not against breastfeeding in public at all, I just know my little guy has always been a choker, social eater and I personally am not comfortable with my chest hanging out while my baby says hello to strangers walking by. Talk about a great way to make new friends! Ha!
After traveling and doing daily out of the home actives where breastfeeding in public became more frequent I realized I liked the time with my Son alone. I would dismiss myself and find a quite private area to nurse him in. Those 10-15min alone with him helped me realize I needed the quiet time just as much as he did. Also having that bonding time with him that he will never have with anyone else. I am his Mom and what I have learned is I need him just as much as he needs me.

First Yum Yums & Sunshine

For a few days Bryson has been fussy, waking up every two hours at night to eat and I am so tired. I really wanted to wait until he was six months before I introduced him to solids since he was a colic baby but I broke down because he seems so hungry and I cant keep up. On May 11th Bryson had his first solids! He ate some baby oatmeal with bananas. He liked it but surprisingly enough he was hungry withing the next two hours. I think next week I will try to give him a steak... lol ;)

We had a great week of sunshine and walks everyday. It was so nice.
